Corten Steel
About Cor-Ten Steel
Cor-ten steel has a unique appearance. The finish has an intense richness that bestows a warm, natural, and elegant look. This distinctive appearance is a result of the oxidation process. The result of this process forms a protective patina that remains unchanged over the years.
The Material
The material is a high tensile strength, corrosion resistant steel alloy. Cor-ten steel contains copper, chromium and phosphorus. In short, the name (Cor-Ten) shows the properties: corrosion resistance (Cor) and high tensile strength (Ten). It’s these properties that make it suitable for use in any environment.
Transformation Process
First, the large cor-ten steel rolls are cut to the required width. Then they are rolled to the specific profile section. Once exposed to air, the patina process begins and it’s this process that creates a protective layer of rust over the surface. When left untreated, the material’s rust will create an ever-changing appearance. However, a surface wax treatment can be applied and this will stop the continued rusting plus provide a protective barrier against the elements.
Cor-Ten Steel Advantages
- Brombal offers thermally broken cor-ten steel
- 100% recycled material
- Cor-ten steel is durable and resistant to environmental elements
- Perfect choice for highly corrosive environments
- No other material can replicate the unique, natural finish of cor-ten

Finish
Cor-ten steel has a unique and distinctive appearance. The intense richness of the finish bestows a warm and natural, yet at the same time extremely elegant look. The beautiful look results from an oxidation process that forms a protective patina that remains unchanged over the years. Leave untreated or a hand applied wax treatment can be applied to achieve a smooth look.
